Stitch Fix

This one is for all of my gal friends, even the ones who hate to shop!  (If you're looking for one of my awkward posts, I should have one up in just a few days.)
I stumbled onto some information about a company in California called Stitch Fix. After reading blog after blog about this company and what they do, I decided to give it a go and write a review of my own. :)

 What is Stitch Fix?
Stitch Fix is a personal styling company. After you sign up and fill out an online style profile, you can select a date to receive a box from your very own personal stylist.

So!!! I ordered my first box and received it today. (A day early!) I just have to add that I don't think I've ever ran to the door that fast. The Fed Ex man looked at me like I was crazy, and honestly, I think he literally ran back to his truck looking back twice.

Behold my Box!

Each box contains five articles of clothing or jewelry that have been hand selected by your very own personal stylist. This box is referred to as a "fix".
Each item will have a style card showing different ways to wear it and how to use it with items you already have. This will ensure that you get the most from your wardrobe and the new pieces you are adding to it.

How it works

Once you have received your box, try on ALL the items in the privacy of your own home. Decide from there, what works for you and which items you wish to keep. Try on everything, you may be surprised by something you wouldn't be likely to buy for yourself.
After you have made your decision, go online and fill out a questionnaire explaining why or what you are sending back to them, then pay for the items you want to keep. You have three days to complete this process. On the third day place unwanted items in the postage paid envelope and ship them back to Stitch Fix.

So!! What was in my first "fix"?!

When I ordered my "fix" I requested items for a date with my husband. Let's see what I got!

Item # 1

Maddy Pointe Fit & Flare Dress- Lovely and well made but just didn't suit me. It comes to a total of $78. At $78 big ones, it better change my life and this dress just didn't do it for me. So back it goes. Status- Sent Back

Item # 2

Anila Floral Print Flutter Sleeve Blouse- Well made. Heavy fabric. I love the florals and I really needed a blouse like this. Total $28
Status- kept

Item # 3

Geena Chevron Print Belted Tunic- LOVE LOVE LOVE! The color, quality, pattern. I wanted this to work so badly but it was a touch too big. :( Also a running price of $58. Eeeew.
Status- sent back

Item # 4

Pacific Chevron Print Skirt- (I aparently have it on sideways. Lol) When I unpacked this skirt, I had made up my mind that it was going back but I heeded the advice of my stylist and tried everything on. After I tried it on, I was deeply in love. Cost - $38
Status - kept

Item # 5

Sasha Mixed Metal Collar Necklace- I hated it at fist glance but tried it on anyway. That face is a suprised face. That face says,"I had every intension of hating this but I like it." Edgy, right? BUT
This necklace is priced at $42. I felt that this was just too steep for the quality of this piece. (Not that the quality was poor but I'd expect something like this to run around $12-$15)

Conclusion
I must say that I give Stitch Fix an A+ for presentation. The box was nice, items were folded neatly in crisp tissue paper, and sealed with a lovely turqouise sticker. They also included a little personal note from the stylist, telling me what was in the box, why they selected those items, and a brief overview of what to do. The quality of the items were much nicer than I expected and customer service is top notch. Stitch Fix seems to have thought of everything when it comes to making their customers feel like it's all about them.

What is the cost?
There is a non-refundable $20 styling fee that may be applied to any item you wish to purchase in your "Fix".
The price of each item in the box vary greatly depending on the budget you set in your style profile.
If you decide to purchase ALL five items in your fix you receive a 25% discount off your total!
All postage is paid, so that's free shipping on everything. I encourage you to read their FAQ section if you are interested. It tells you EVERYTHING you need to know.
So the initial cost is $20

Pros
Free shipping
Save on gas
I have items that work with my style, my closet, body shape, and make me think outside of the "style" box. :)
Saves precious time that I just don't have. Especially with a toddler.
It was so much fun!

Cons
If you chose not to buy anything your out $20.
Items may still be pricey.
It may take up to three "fixes" for your stylist to learn what you like.

Tips
Request the same stylist for every fix rather than someone different. You'll be more likely to love all the items in your box.

If you want to keep four out of five items in your box, do the math and consider keeping all five. It may be more cost effective with that 25% discount.

When filing out your questionnaire be brutally honest. Instead of "I hated this blouse.", help your stylist by saying,"It was too tight in the shoulders and I didn't like the stripes" be specific. This will only ensure a better "fix" next time.

Refer your friends. When you order a "fix", you will receive a referral link. If your friends order their first fix through that link you will receive a $25 credit to your account (once their box has shipped). That's like free clothes, people!

Create a style board on Pinterest and give the link to your stylist. This will help your stylist learn more about you and what you like and you never know, an item from your Pinterest board just might make its way to your closet. ;)

You can sign up for monthly fixes and you can cancel at any time. There is no obligation.

You can also request items and give specific instructions.

Make sure to mail out the unwanted items within 3 days, else they assume you wish to keep them!

Cats, Piñatas, and Self Defense

It was December 2006. I wasn't yet married and was sharing an apartment with my maid of honor. I was thrilled that she moved in with me. She brought friendship, kindness, and joy into my  apartment. She covered half the rent and forced me to be organized, which was quite necessary.           As she moved in, box after box was stacked up around her room, leaving only a small path from the door to her bed. Among the many things that she brought into our apartment, was a furry gray cat. Now listen. I'm allergic to cats. Up to this point I didn't quite care for them, but for my dear friend, I was willing to make things work. I would not only try to tolerate the cat but become friends with it and do whatever else cat people do.          Christmas was quickly approaching and the wrapping of gifts had commenced. My room mate was down the street with family. So I put on my brand new pj's and proceeded to wrap my gifts, but I needed tape. I walked through the tiny

God is Not Unfair

I'm sad. I'm broken. I'm hurting. I'm feeling pain, anger, frustration, guilt, and completely out of control. Im exhausted, overwhelmed, out of sorts, and in a state of shock. Broken hearted, disgusted and flat out mad. I've cried and cried and when I didn't think there were any more tears, I cried some more.       After 2 years of wondering if I'd ever get pregnant again, we found out we were going to have a baby. We were busting at the seams, trying not to let the cat out of the bag until we could go see our families. I'd organized and lined up crib options, pulled out all my maternity clothes, and tried my best to resist the urge to bring all the baby gear up from the basement. I looked at books to read to my son in preparation for a sibling, made my prenatal appointment, and took my first photo to compare as my belly would grow.       A few days later, we learned that we had lost this one.     I laid down that night not knowing how I w

Stitch Fix Review #2

Stitch Fix #2    Things have been wild around here but many of you have been asking to see my latest "fix". So here it is!     I would rather not show you all the pictures but I will, despite my utter displeasure and horror.     My Stitch Fix box arrived 2 days early this time! That's awesome considering how impatient and anxious I become as my "Fix" approaches. I have problems. Lol     FIX # 2 !!!!!  1. Paloma Cutout Jersey Top  I liked the feel of this top but it was ALL WRONG for me. So a huge no.  Status- sent back.  2. Roxanna Chevron Open knit Cardigan.     I really wanted to like this. The color was wonderfully coral and it was very soft. Even though it seemed to overwhelm my short stature I would have kept it, however it had some structural issues. The knitting seemed to be pulling away at the seams. This cardigan would not have a chance in my possession.  Status- sent back  3. Aimes Crochet
